Some Street art

Fitzroy where Gravity and Grace lives works and plays is becoming well known for the quality of its street art. G&G oftens sees ppl photographing the walls as he heads to the supermarket or the gym. Our particular little corner of Fitzroy has old factories and workshops aside the conversions and old workers cottages. there is plenty of surface and I have watched street parties on hot summer nights as walls are covered. As ppl move into there conversions they pay ppl to put it up which is pretty cool. I see most of these pictures everyday just walking about and everyday there is something new to see or discover.

Cheers to guys who posted 'Poo bum' in huge letters on the wall i face everyday as i ride out to work - that you took the time always makes me chuckle as i ride out to the new day.

the pics are from google images

Online store is uploaded

Our online store is finally out there www.gravityandgrace.com.au.

It feels nice to say that the shop is open again. Perhaps this is where we should have started instead of opening a store full of lovely high end pieces just in time for a global financial meltdown.

The struggle as always is to get attention... attention we were just starting to get when our lease ran out. I am twittering to see how that goes in spreading the message.

The online store has been built and is ready to go as soon as it is uploaded. Our web builder went on a holiday before doing so. Hmm!
Furniture is selling on consignment, and being found by ppl who are emailing for quotes. Sorry the euro has gone up the dollar to the max and we cannot offer our furniture at the price you found on the consignment site.

global recession hits G&G

Gravity and Grace no longer will have a retail presence when the lease on our showroom runs out on January 9th. Fear not however as G&G will maintain an online presence and establish an online lifestyle shop. Watch this space.

We offer a range of smaller, European design brands to the Australian market. Some are long established and some quite recent arrivals, showcasing work by upcoming and established international designers. All these brands share the same passion and enthusiasm that we do for contemporary design allied with functionality and durability. These designs will work equally well within a domestic or commercial setting.

We will offer a range of high quality homewares and accessories from around the word. All share the same design ethos as our furniture. We will continue to offer a service allowing access to the furniture from our suppliers such as David Design and Quodes

Gravity and Grace is a design store in the European mould, aiming to make excellent design accessible to those who appreciate its role in their living and working spaces.

Gravity and Grace
This is a great store in Swan Street, Richmond. They have a selection of stylish, well designed furniture from a range of smaller, European manufacturers. This is furniture you won't be sick of the sight of within a couple of years, made to a high standard. They also have a great range of local and European accessories.Highly recommended!

a launch

Ruth the artist wishes to hold a launch for her works and who can blame her. They look fabulous in the showroom and should be shown off. I am interested in the concept of selling art in this way and am curious to see how it will go. I believe in the work and feel it is very reasonably priced.

The Hanging

On Tuesday evening the four pictures for our exhibiton were hung. It was an interesting experience watching Marita and Ruth work. It was a joy to see these pictures which I have gotten to know and love through their reproductions hanging on the wall. They really speak to me and look stunning on the walls

an exhibition at Gravity and Grace

We are working with gallerysmith to present the following works by Ruth Fleishman at the showroom. It will be interesting to see how this presentation works as a concept.

Ruth Fleishman
Dwelling series
Ruth Fleishman’s work looks to the way societies and families construct
a sense of place. These concepts stem from her interest in
impermanence, transience and dislocation of the migrant experience
and how these mould identity, relationships to land and home.
The images explore the notion of ‘creating a home’ using modelmaking
as a process for establishing a constructed space. Landscape
digitisation creates a utopian but equally foreign environment that is
unrecognisable as either the mother land or the new country.
Ruth Fleishman received her Master of Fine Arts from RMIT in 2007 after
completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1993. In 2007 she was awarded
the RMIT-Seimens Scholarship and later undertook a residency at the
John David Mooney Foundation in Chicago USA. She has been
exhibiting since 1996 and lives and works in Melbourne.
$1450.00 each (framed)
This exhibition is presented in collaboration with

Vogue Living editorial

Independently of signing up for the Vogue Living promotion, one of their editorial staff 'discovered' us and the store is being photographed for a story in the December issue.  As well the structure will be photographed in a separate shoot for which we will also get a namecheck.  We might get noticed!  Here is the structure chair again.

Some sales and some promotion

We were pleased to be promoted on the David Design page. Maybe some design tragics will explore the site and find their way to us!
We are going to promote ourselves in Vogue Living's October issue. They are having a feature on 'Melbourne's shopping secrets' and we will have half a page for a reasonable price.
We made some sales of accessories this week and have had some serious interest in our furniture by a national organisation based in Richmond. fingers crossed.
